Soft Silicone Milk Collectors : How and When to Use Them

Rumina Center | February 10, 2026

You’ve likely heard of these silicone milk collectors by a common brand name: Haakaa, but all of them operate using the same principle of basic suction to collect some milk from your breast without the use of an active pumping system. This is a great tool for pulling off extra milk when you’re feeling too-full at the end of a feeding or if your baby only takes one breast and the opposing breast remains engorged. It’s recommended to save the usage of this tool for the conclusion of a feeding. Having it on the opposing breast while your baby takes the first side, may leave Baby frustrated when you switch sides and the milk doesn’t flow as readily. There doesn’t seem to be one brand that’s far superior to others, it’s really personal preference but it is best to opt for the lighter weight, pliable options rather than the heavier, less-pliable ones. Nursing moms do tend to love these easy-to-use milk collectors and find it’s a low-stress method of building a small freezer stash.
